"Scooter's" Last Ride

"SCOOTER" 1993-2008

My son had to let Scooter go yesterday. Her little heart had just worn out after 15 years. She had been suffering with a bad heart for just the last couple of months and was on 5 different meds for it. She was a wonderful little kitty and had a great life with her "Pops." She loved my son so much, and he loved her.

She was a little stray kitten he found outside a diner one night in Augusta, GA. The waitress told him that she'd been there about 5 or 6 days and that she had been bringing cat food from her home each day to feed her. She also told him that her husband, who owned a reptile shop, was considering the kitten for snake food. Well, that did it! My son asked if the kitty would be okay there til the next morning. So at 6am the next day, with a pet carrier and a little litter box, food and water dishes, he headed out on the 2-hour drive from his home back to Augusta to get this dear little kitten.

She made kitty #2 in his household. Scooter and Punky got along so well and played all the time. They were buddies....actually, sisters in their own little world. After my son took them home from my home on September 21st, they did get another trip to Florida. Scooter had a lot of miles on her! But she had her last ride yesterday and received that final injection at 4:20pm. This leaves us all with a heavy spot in our hearts, but we know that she is now all well and waiting and watching for her master so they can someday cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Below is what my vet gives to his clients when they lose a pet....

"There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt and maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly she begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster to you. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge......together, never again to be separated.'
P.S. By the way, Punky, the kitty with the oral cancer, is doing quite well at the present time. And Buster, my daughter's black cat, had his last round of chemo on Monday. He is doing well, but he has to go back in a month for a checkup and another ultrasound.

Losing a beloved pet is not an easy thing, is it! I'm so sorry to hear that Scooter is now gone but how blessed she was the day your son found her and brought her home. The companionship she gave you and your son will forever be in your hearts. xoxo

My sympathies for your loss, Nancy.

RIP, Scooter.

I have a 15 year old kitty myself. Candy is my baby and I'm already dreading having to give her up. She's showing signs of aging and going down.

Hope everything else is okay with you and yours, Nancy.

Love and hugs,

Diane

Oh! THat just make my hear hurt! But That little kitty had such a wonderful and loved life. I am sure even if she would have escaped the snake people she most likely would have had a short hard life. I love the Rainbow bridge! I have a few pets there!

Nancy,

My heartfelt sympathy on the loss of Scooter. Our pets are part of our families and it is difficult when they pass. How wonderful that your vet hands out the Rainbow Bridge poem.

Glad your other kitties are doing well. I hope he has a good monthly checkup.

Blessings,

When Nancy's kitty cat died last year she was 15 years old and her name was Ollie.

Nancy was so sad that our neighbor came over and told her about the Rainbow Bridge and that seemed to heip her. I had never heard of that before.

Nancy is my 46 years old Special Needs daughter. She just loved that cat so much! and Ollie loved her too!! After Ollie was gone our other Cat Zeek went in the bed room and curled up next to Nancy.

He goes in there almost every day and takes his afternoon nap with her!
I am sorry about your lost. Hugs, Grams

I'm so sorry, Nancy. Losing a pet is the worst feeling.

That Rainbow Bridge piece kills me every time. I'm my pregnant, hormonal state, especially.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Hi Nancy. Sorry to hear about Scooter. I know how it is to lose a pet. We had to put our Lhasa Apso down 2 days before his 10th birthday. He had a tumor in his belly. Hated to see him suffer any more.

Hi Nancy. When are you going to post again? A lot of the jokes and things that you send out in the e-mails, you could put on your blog.
Have a great day!

Nancy,

My sincere sympathies on the passing of Scooter. It is very hard when our pets cross Rainbow Bridge.

I'm glad your son rescued Scooter. What was that man thinking? Feed a cat to a snake? I suppose these atrocities go on all the time but I'm glad that Scooter lived a nice long life with someone who loved her.

Blessings,
Mary

Hi Nancy,
Was thinking of you today and just stopped in to say hi! Hope all is well, miss your posts!
I have a new stray kitten that has found me! He has learned how to use the cat door and has been helping himself to the cat food! I saw him in the kitchen the day we got home from Florida but I couldn't catch him! I'm glad he is eating here though and will continue to try to tame him.
Take care! xoxo

Oh, Nancy! I am so sorry about your kitty. We put our old, 14-yr-old Chocolate Lab down early in 2008 and our kitty, who is pushing 15 seems to be slowing down as well. I know how sad you feel. ((hugs))

It's always hard to say goodbye. I had to have our old chow, Fred, go a year and a half ago and we still miss him. We have Myrtle now of course and she is our baby, but once inawhile I still think about Fred, my old friend

I am so sorry for your loss Sweetie! They are part of our families and it's so hard to say goodbye. But I do believe there is a rainbow bridge! My faithful dogs Nikki, Brandy and Brownie are there playing with your Scooter, romping and having fun until they see us again.
Big warm hugs, Sherry
