Grandma's Pie

Grannie made such beautiful pies!
One day, I asked her, "How do you get such beautiful pies
with the crimps around the edge so even?"
"It's a family secret," she said.
"So promise not to tell.
I roll out the dough, then cut a bottom layer
and carefully put it in the pie plate.
Then I slowly pour the filling, making sure it's not too full.
Next I cut a top layer and put it over the filling.
Finally, I take out my teeth and just run them
around the edge of the pie crust,
and they make the nicest even impressions you ever did see."

I have had this picture for a little while now but was just waiting for the right time to make a post of it. Yesterday I made an apple pie from some Granny Smith apples I had leftover from the last batch I bought at the apple farm. That's when this pic popped into my mind again, and I just had to share it with you all! Sorry, but I forgot to take a pic of the pie I made. And, no, I do not have false teeth, so my crust was just crimped with my fingers!

LOL! That was a cute little story.

Oh, I wish we lived next door to each other, I would be popping in for a nice piece of apple pie at tea time. ;)

Our weather today is COLD it is -10 this morning and the high for today is to be +2 around 3 o'clock. Brrrr!
We had about 12 inches of snow in the last 2 days. Oh, well Spring will be here in about 6 weeks.

Have a nice day.

So cute! Hmmm...makes ya wonder. Those false teeth really WOULD make a nice "impression"...lol.

Hope you're doing well. Miss you. Life is becoming a bit calmer now, so maybe we can get together for coffee soon! I'm dieting, so I'll have to pass on the apple pie. ;)

Love,
Diane

OMIGOSH! That is just too funny. Jim and I spent Friday night with my SIL, Deb (Barr/Huston) and Kacy. Deb makes the very best pies ever. I need to sent this to her.

Speaking of Deb, George was to have a very lengthy surgery for a cancerous growth in his armpit yesterday. I am waiting to hear from her as to the results. I'll keep you informed.

Loved the photo and the story. I should be dieting, but I say, what the heck, if a piece of apple pie comes my way, I'll eat it. Although I am partial to apricot pie. My Mother makes the best. We've been having very cold, icy, snowy days this week. I wouldn't be surprised but what school isn't canceled tomorrow. It took Melissa from 4:40 to 6:15 to get home this evening. Usually she makes it in a half hour. Interstate had some accidents so she came another route, but it hadn't been plowed or salted. That's Ohio weather for you. Never know what you're going to get.

Oh, Nancy, Thank You for the laugh. Sometimes it is better if we don't know all the "secrets".
Hope you stay nice and warm and glad you like our house. She is a lot of work, but what I always wanted. You would be amazed at what we paid for the house and 6 acres. In a few years we will have it pretty much together. I can plant as much as I want, have as many critters as I want along with peace and quiet. One day you will have to come and visit. I always enjoy our blog visits.

Nancy,

Well, there's more than one way to do things. LOL Very cute!

Grandma used a crimping tool or her fingers to crimp her pie crust. In the early 60s, my aunt gave her the crimping tool and she enjoyed using it. Grandma made the best apple pies in the world.

Blessings,
Mary

Hello Dear Nancy ~~ That is so funny
about Grandma's teeth. I do hope you are feeling much better by now. Is the bursitis any better? I am glad you are pleased with the award. I had to think about the 10 things for quite a while. We expect a very hot week and I guess yours will be very cold. Do be careful on the roads. I know how very blessed I am with my family, friends including blogger friends. Look after yourself my friend. Love you, Merle.
